Some clubs kicking goals with fan engagement

Some AFL clubs are doing well to engage fans with bonus deals and cheap memberships and game tickets, the AFL Fans Association said today.

An AFLFA survey found Richmond and Brisbane have the cheapest junior memberships at just $45, while Essendon has the cheapest adult 11 game home membership at $175. Port Adelaide is not far behind on $175.

Richmond has the best value 11 home game family membership at just $398 for two adults and up to four children. Hawthorn covers four children for $422 and Geelong, North Melbourne and St Kilda for $430.

Brisbane match access members can upgrade to a Grand Final guarantee for just $40, while GWS members get free match day Sydney train travel and free Sydney Royal Easter Show access on selected dates.

While the Tigers increased Round 1 reserved seat ticket prices by $2 at the last minute, Richmond and North Melbourne have also reduced game prices using the new dynamic pricing system.

AFL Fans Association president Gerry Eeman said the Kangaroos’ offer of $15 adult general admission tickets (down from $25) for its Etihad Stadium clash with the Bulldogs paid off with a crowd of 47,622.

“Melbourne also had a number of general admission bays on Level 1 when it played Richmond on Anzac Day Eve, which resulted in a great atmosphere with few gaps at ground level. Getting fans close to the action is best way to improve the match-day experience.” Gerry says.

“So often Level 1 has little or no general admission, so fans who can’t afford expensive reserved seats are forced to sit on the top level while the best below remain empty.”

“When clubs do the right things by fans they appreciate it. We applaud AFL clubs that have kept membership prices down and those who have moved to discount game day tickets.”
