AFL FANS ASSOCIATION (AFLFA): “GIVING FOOTY FANS A VOICE”
The AFL has listened to fans, confirming that the 2025 Grand Final will once again be held in the traditional 2.30pm timeslot.
AFL Fans Association President Ron Issko welcomed the decision and thanked the AFL Commission and CEO Andrew Dillon for respecting the clear wishes of the football community.
“For many years, surveys and polls have consistently shown that around 3 in 4 fans prefer a daytime Grand Final,” Ron said. “In fact, last year’s AFLFA Fans Survey recorded an overwhelming 83% support for the 2.30pm start. When that many fans are in agreement, it’s only right to honour their preference.”
“We’re grateful that the AFL has acknowledged the voice of the fans and kept the Grand Final in its much-loved afternoon slot.”
Ron described the day of the Grand Final as a cherished Australian tradition. “It’s a uniquely shared experience—whether you’re at the game, hosting a BBQ, or watching with friends and family. The afternoon timeslot allows fans to enjoy the full day: from the pre-match entertainment, the game itself and then celebrating into the evening.”
“Thank you, Andrew, for listening to the fans,” Ron concluded. “Perhaps we can now look at locking in the day Grand Final through to 2030, so we can avoid this unnecessary annual debate.”
