AFL recognises fans’ wishes with a Day Grand Final

AFL FANS ASSOCIATION (AFLFA): “GIVING FOOTY FANS A VOICE”

The AFL has listened to fans by maintaining the day Grand Final for this year.

AFL Fans Association president Ron Issko thanked the AFL for recognising the fans' wishes for a traditional 2.30 pm start for the 2023 Grand Final.

“Polls have long shown that most supporters prefer a day game, and this sentiment has strengthened since we had a night Grand Final in 2020 and a twilight Grand Final in 2021,” Ron says.

“We’re grateful that the AFL has respected the preference of most fans and maintained the Grand Final at its popular afternoon time slot. Perhaps CEO-elect Andrew Dillon can lock in the day Grand Final for the next few years so we don't have to wait until mid-May to find out."

Ron says the day Grand Final is a unique Australian tradition and experience. “The build-up and atmosphere at the ground and in private parties is highly anticipated each year. The day is divided up evenly between pre-game festivities and entertainment, the match itself and plenty of time to celebrate with friends, family and kids afterwards."

“Let’s hope this tradition continues for many years.”
